A founder partner
Garth started his career at Willis Faber & Dumas Ltd. In 1986 he founded the Lloyd’s broker, Fraser Insurance Brokers Ltd. By 1992 the company had become one of the fastest growing London market brokers. That year the Swire Pacific Group (Market Capital $12 billion) secured a 40% stake in the company and the company was renamed Swire Fraser. In 1993 Garth was elected to LIBC which was the pre-eminent committee that set market standards and regulations for all Lloyd’s brokers. He served 4 years on this committee. In 1997 the company was acquired by E W Blanch, the International Reinsurance Broker based out of Minneapolis. By then the company had 12 international offices and circa. 600 staff.
From 1998 to 2005 Garth worked closely as a special adviser with Capital Z (UK) Ltd. CPZ was one of the leading private equity funds in the Financial Services sector and specialised predominantly in Insurance and Reinsurance investments.
In 1999 he formed Capital BC Partners Ltd. with his colleague Charlie Carter.
A founder partner
Charlie also started his career at Willis Faber & Dumas Ltd. where he became one of the youngest directors ever appointed. In 1979 he founded the Lloyd’s broker Carter Brito Cunha Ltd. and CBC UK Ltd. The group became one of the more successful reinsurance brokers in the market place handling global international re-insurance business. Some years later the company diversified and created CBC UK Ltd. to handle retail UK insurance business.
In 1987 the group was acquired by Johnson & Higgins which at the time was the largest US and International based insurance broker in the world. The name of the company was changed to Johnson & Higgins and the majority of its US and International business was directed through the London office.
In 1998 J&H was acquired by Marsh and Charlie stayed on for a year to oversee the integration.
Charlie was a director for 5 years of R K Harrison Ltd. one of the more successful London market brokers.
He was also a non-executive director of London and European Title Insurance Services Ltd. This was a UK subsidiary of the April Group, a French company with a market capitalisation in excess of Euros 3 billion.
In 1999 he formed Capital BC Partners Ltd. with his colleague Garth Bearman.
